Alan Woods...

Alan is a highly successful and experienced business manager who has spent the majority of his career leading senior operations management teams in the building materials industry.

He began his working life as an engineering apprentice in the Royal Navy and went on to serve as a Chief Petty Officer maintaining primary weapon systems in surface ships. He then started a new career in production management in the precast concrete manufacturing sector. Here, he was instrumental in leading numerous successful multi-site improvement and change management projects over a 23 year period, the last 13 years at Director level.

His work in senior management positions has included leadership of multi-functional management teams in manufacturing, sales, logistics, procurement and customer service. Throughout his career he has maintained a strong interest in engineering and technology and has developed his problem solving skills and applied them to a variety of business issues.

In addition to a degree in engineering gained with the Open University, Alan possesses a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from Lancaster University. It was following this most recent course of study, when he undertook consultancy work for a children’s charity that he decided to seek a change of career in business consultancy.

Alan joined the ICON team because he was impressed by their successful business model and their passion for helping SME business owners to achieve growth and gain the rewards for the hard work that they put in. He is extremely keen to be able to apply his own knowledge and skills in conjunction with the proven ICON systems to help businesses in his own area.

Away from work, Alan is the secretary of his local branch of the Royal British Legion and has been the organiser of the annual Poppy Appeal in his area for over 20 years. He is a keen mountain bike rider and fell walker and has also recently re-discovered road biking. Along with a group of friends he is a member of Team Oscar, which raises funds for cancer charities through sponsored outdoor pursuit challenges. His most recent achievement was walking the West Highland Way when he helped raise over £1,500.
